MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting that left one man injured Monday morning.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, who is also a spokesman for the police department, officers responded to the area of Northwest 67th Street and 19th Avenue just after 3:40 a.m. after receiving several ShotSpotter alerts.
He said officers arrived at the scene to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Residents in the area told Local 10 News that the shooting occurred just outside the front door of a pink home.
“That’s my son’s friend’s house. I don’t what happened, but I hope he’s OK,” Jerry Byrd said, adding that he’s tired of hearing gunshots in the area.
The victim was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition, Rodriguez said.
Police did not immediately have information about the shooter.
At the scene, officers found more than 20 bullet casings left behind.
“In this area it’s normal for a shooting to happen like that, so you just stay in bed and not get up, because they shoot every day here,” one neighbor said. “That’s why I plan on leaving this area and going back to Tennessee.”
Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
