Girl, 4, her mother dead after Turnpike shooting in Broward

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 4-year-old girl and her mother died after a late Friday night shooting on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded shortly after 11:50 p.m., on Friday, to the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, south of Hollywood Boulevard, and found both had suffered gunshot wounds.

Hollywood Fire Rescue personnel responded.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the victims were a 4-year-old girl and her mother Beatrice Saintvil.

“The vehicle was parked in the left break down lane,” BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro said in a news release. “Hollywood Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Saintvil to a local hospital where she later died. Sadly, her daughter was pronounced deceased on scene.”

FHP troopers temporarily closed the Florida Turnpike in both directions early Saturday morning. A tow truck removed a car that was riddled with bullets on the front and back passenger’s side.

“At the request of FHP, BSO homicide detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating this fatal shooting,” Caro said.

FHP troopers and BSO detectives asked anyone with information about this case to call BSO Homicide Detective Ryan Schnakenberg at 954-321-4247 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for any Crime Stoppers tip that leads to an arrest.
