Miami grieving family asks for help with 2022 unsolved murder in Overtown

Police: 2 shooters killed Torrell Dewey Phillips

MIAMI – Phil Phillips was in tears on Friday in front of cameras at the Miami Police Department’s headquarters.

He pleaded for help to solve the murder of his 37-year-old son on Sept. 25, 2022, in a busy area of Overtown.

Phillips said those with information must “give up the no snitch rule” and the “I don’t have nothing to do with it rule.”

Surveillance video shows two shooters running behind Torrell Dewey Phillips, a father of five who worked in landscaping.

“If you know who did it, I need you to think about how it can be your son, your daughter, your mom — it can be anybody,” the grieving said.

The video shows he rode a bicycle after visiting a corner store near Northwest Third Avenue and 11th Street. The two shooters fired at him several times before fleeing in a dark car, police said.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
