NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A man with several violent felonies under his belt is now facing even more after police said he robbed a Family Dollar in North Miami of $40 worth of merchandise Wednesday.

Police said it happened just before noon at the chain’s location at 14610 NE Sixth Ave.

According to an arrest report, a worker caught Clieve Lake Jr. concealing the merchandise in his bag and confronted him as he tried to leave.

Police said Lake then “lifted his shirt, exposing the handle of a black and brown firearm that was tucked into his waistband.”

The report states Lake held on to the handle of the firearm and asked the worker, “You want to get shot for Family Dollar?”

In fear for her life, police said the worker stepped out of the way as Lake left. They said he got into a stolen Dodge Charger and sped out of the parking lot.

Police said they spotted the sedan at around 3:30 p.m. and arrested Lake after he parked at an apartment building on charges of armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Lake has a bevy of violent felony convictions to his name, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.

FDOC records show he spent nearly a decade in prison, from 1995 to 2005, after being convicted of six felony charges, including attempted murder, armed robbery and armed burglary in Miami-Dade County.

He served less than a year in prison starting in September 2015 after Broward County convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and felon in possession of a firearm.

According to an arrest report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, those convictions stem from an Aug. 30, 2014 incident in West Park where Lake beat and pulled a gun on the mother of his children after she couldn’t locate someone for him to buy drugs from.

Lake was also accused of stabbing his then-wife to death in North Miami Beach back in 2018. Miami-Dade court records show that prosecutors dropped that case in 2021.

Official records from FDOC and Miami-Dade and Broward counties contain discrepancies regarding Lake’s age, variously listing his birth year as either 1975 or 1977. His North Miami police arrest report and Miami-Dade jail records list the latter year, making him 46 at the time of his arrest.

Lake, who is homeless, was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Thursday afternoon.
