According to the suspects’ arrest reports, Miami-Dade Kendall District police officers received a call around 2:50 a.m. about a vehicle burglary in progress outside a home in the 14100 block of Harrison Street.

Police said a responding officer approached the suspects’ black BMW using his spotlight, at which time the driver drove around the marked police car and fled the scene.

According to the reports, police officers followed the BMW without any lights or sirens activated as they requested aviation units to assist.

Police said an aviation unit followed the BMW until it parked in the area of Northwest 11th Avenue and 55th Terrace, where Johnson and Kimble got out and began running west.

Both men were taken into custody a short time later.

According to the reports, the men had been spotted by the victim inside his work van, attempting to steal the vehicle.

Police said the suspects gained access to the van by prying open the passenger-side door handle and breaking the steering column cover in an attempt to turn it on.

Police said both men invoked their rights not to speak with detectives. They were both then transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
