HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā Authorities responded to a house fire in Hollywood Tuesday afternoon.
It happened near the 2900 block of Wiley Street, just a few blocks away from Interstate 95.
Sky 10 flew over the scene at 4:15 p.m. where firefighters were battling the blaze on a ladder truck.
Authorities confirmed the home was vacant at the time of the blaze and there were no reported injuries or medical transports.
Luke Ormston lives with his parents at the home directly beside the house that caught fire.
āWe came home as fast as we could and we couldnāt even get here,ā Ormston said. āI was having a full panic attack.ā
Local 10 News acquired records of the home which reveal several lawn and parking restrictions, such as a prohibition on accumulating ābulky and yard waste on any private property,ā dating back to 2022.
There were about six or seven abandoned cars that I counted one day, I looked over the fence, and I counted like 19 refrigerators,ā said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.
The fire did not appear to spread as the smoke continued to billow out over I-95 between Pembroke Road and Hollywood Boulevard.
A Local 10 News viewer sent cellphone video of the thick smoke billowing into the air.
A Local 10 News crew arrived at the scene just before 5 p.m. where Hollywood Fire Rescue crews were maintaining the blaze with water pumps.
Neighbors claim an elderly man who lives at the home has a habit of storing junk in his yard.
āI was thinking we were going to be homeless today, because if that (home) catches on fire, then that (junk) could catch on fire,ā said Ormston.
With much of the home destroyed in the fire, neighbors expressed concern for the man who lives there.
āHe drove a little car, he had stuff everywhere, in the car, out of the car,ā said neighbor Kelly Burgess. āSenior citizen, minded his own business, didnāt bother nobody. It was bound to happen, sooner or later, it was just shocking that it happened now.ā
āIt was bound to happen, sooner or later. It was just shocking that it happened now,ā added Burgess.
Sky 10 flew over the home Wednesday, where the fire left a massive hole in its roof.
