DeSantis reacts to Trump’s guilty verdict at ‘one of the most liberal enclaves in America’

DeSantis releases statement of solidarity after Trump’s felony conviction in New York

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After former President Donald Trump reacted to the guilty verdict in New York, Gov. Ron DeSantis released a statement on X Thursday afternoon.

DeSantis, who lost to Trump during the presidential primary, echoed Trump’s statement outside the courtroom after the verdict.

“Today’s verdict represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America—all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump.”

DeSantis questioned the timing of the case. Trump was indicted on March 30, 2023, and arraigned on April 4, 2023. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

“That this case—involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago—was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City,” DeSantis wrote.

The governor also attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“This same district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct in a way that has endangered law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction,” DeSantis wrote.

DeSantis criticized the legitimacy of the case.

“In America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner, not become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court,” DeSantis wrote.

Trump’s sentencing on the low-level felony is set for July 11 — four days before the Republican National Convention.

Since Trump is a Florida resident, DeSantis has the power to pardon Trump so he is allowed to vote as a convicted felon.
