Miami police investigate after woman found dead inside apartment

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered Tuesday morning inside her apartment.

According to Officer Mike Vega, a spokesman for the police department, police received a call just before 8:30 a.m. about an unresponsive female who was found inside an apartment building located at 429 NE 82nd St.

“At first, we believed it could’ve been a self-inflicted wound or a natural death, however, through the investigation, we determined that this is a homicide, and we’re investigating it as such,” Vega said.

Police have identified the victim as 41-year-old Sujelry Brito.

They said she was found dead inside of her bedroom from a single gunshot wound.

“We’re trying to figure out who came into her apartment to cause her this harm, when they did it, and what’s the reason for killing this woman,” Vega said.

Police said Brito lived alone.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene later in the day as police were seen speaking with neighbors.

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
