‘It doesn’t feel safe anymore:’ Residents shaken after shooting in downtown Miami

MIAMI – A woman said she quickly hid under her bed with her dog — fearing for her life — after a gunshot hit her apartment window on Sunday in downtown Miami.

Police said the incident occurred on the 44th floor of one of the high-rise buildings in the vicinity.

Residents said they felt the bullets flying. Police officers responded to the area near Northeast Second Street and Third Avenue, just west of Biscayne Boulevard.

Local 10 obtained video showing the swift response of Miami police to the scene.

Officers said they were called to the Vizcayne South Condo complex, located off Northeast Second Street and Biscayne Boulevard, around 7:15 p.m.

The victim, who spoke exclusively to Local 10, recounted being in her bedroom on the 44th floor when she heard the gunfire.

Detectives shared photographs of the crime scene that showed the damage inflicted on the window of the apartment, with the single bullet hole visibly evident.

Despite the victim promptly alerting police, authorities said they have yet to determine where the gunshots came from, or who fired them.

The victim, who asked not to reveal her identity, expressed her fear and sense of insecurity following the incident.

“Very scared, unable to breathe for some time. (It) doesn’t feel safe anymore,” she said.

Another resident shared just how close the gunshots came to injuring someone.

“It felt super close,” he said. “Not just the sound of the gun, like the shot, but we felt the impact of the bullets.”

The victim told detectives that she believed the shots may have come from from one of the buildings across the street. However, conclusive evidence has yet to be established by police.

Several windows were impacted, including at resident Vivian Olodun’s unit.

Authorities said no injuries were reported amidst the chaos and the investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
