MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Twenty-nine-year-old Alfred Clifford Hall Jr. spent nearly nine years locked up in state prison on multiple violent felony charges before being released in November. After a bit more than half a year of freedom, he was back behind bars on a carjacking charge as of Tuesday.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Hall was in state prison from Oct. 23, 2014 to Nov. 6, 2023 after being convicted of charges including robbery, grand theft auto and carjacking in Miami-Dade County. He had been serving a 10-year sentence.

An arrest report states that Hall returned to his old ways Monday evening, carjacking a woman at 20th Street and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach.

According to police, the woman stopped her rented Fiat at the traffic light just after 8:30 p.m. when Hall walked up, opened the door and demanded that the victim move over.

When she wouldn’t get out, Hall tried pushing her into the passenger’s seat, the report states.

Police said Hall took the woman’s iPhone and purse before grabbing her, dragging her out of the vehicle, throwing her to the ground and driving off. Witnesses ran over to help.

Authorities said they were able to track Hall through the victim’s Find my iPhone app, tracing a man matching his description to a bus bench in the 300 block of 41st Street.

The report states that a Miami Beach police sergeant approached Hall, who was “sweating profusely.”

The sergeant noticed that Hall had a cellphone in his pocket that “constantly kept on ringing.”

Police said Hall claimed the phone was his. He removed it after a threat to pat him down and it matched the description of the victim’s phone; it had a photo of her children as the background image.

Authorities said they later found the stolen car in the 2500 block of Flamingo Place and the victim’s black Chanel purse laying on the ground on 26th Street between Flamingo Place and Pine Tree Drive.

The woman suffered minor injuries from being dragged to the pavement and refused medical treatment, police said.

Police said Hall refused to provide a statement.

As of Tuesday, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a carjacking charge. His bond was listed as “to be set.”
