Cooper City robbery suspect pulled out of canal after attempt to evade deputies

COOPER CITY, Fla. – Broward County deputies jumped into a Cooper City canal to retrieve a robbery suspect who went in the water trying to evade them Tuesday morning.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the robbery happened in the Pine Lake Shopping Center, in the 10000 block of Griffin Road, just before 10:40 a.m.

A BSO spokesperson said the suspect ran away and jumped into the canal, near Palm Avenue in the Summertime Isles community.

Deputies tried coaxing the suspect, who appeared to have taken at least some of his clothes off, out of the water but a BSO dive team later went in to pull him out.

“He tried to escape, he said that ‘I am almost finished’ but he was not trying to surrender,” witness Prince Allencherry said. “‘I want to die, I want to die, I am finished,’ that is what he said.”
