Car crashes into Hollywood business

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A car crashed into a business in Hollywood early Tuesday morning, leaving significant damage behind.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at Wholesale Flooring Depot, located at 2201 Sheridan St.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman, a 2014 gray Audi was speeding down Sheridan Street, heading westbound, when it struck a sign and came to a rest against the building.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as the vehicle was inside the garage of the business.

The crash damaged one of the pillars on the side of the building and the vehicle sustained heavy damage.

“It came over the tracks. They were speeding, went through the lawn, went straight through and hit us,” the owner of the business, Sharon Ciavatto, said.

Grossman confirmed that the driver was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Ciavatto told Local 10 that this is the third time someone has crashed their vehicle into her store, which has been in business for nearly 20 years.

“It’s crazy, it’s nuts -- it shouldn’t be,” she said.

Local 10 reported on one of those incidents in March 2021 when a driver allegedly fled the scene after crashing into the business.

This time, Ciavatto said she’s looking at about $200,000 in damages.

BSO did not immediately identify the driver or confirm whether he or she will be facing charges.
