Multiple tarps spotted on ground after pedestrian struck by train in Oakland Park

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck Monday by a Tri-Rail train in Oakland Park.

Sky 10 was above the area of Prospect Road and Northwest Eighth Avenue around 12:35 p.m. as multiple yellow tarps were spotted on the ground.

The train remained stopped on the tracks.

“The intersection at Prospect Road and Powerline Road in Oakland Park is shut down until further notice,” the Broward Sheriff’s Office posted on X, formerly Twitter. “BSO deputies are on scene investigating a fatal crash involving a train and a pedestrian. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.”

BSO confirmed to Local 10 News that the victim was a man, but his identity has not yet been released. It remains unclear why he was on the tracks.

No other details were immediately released.
