Authorities said Hialeah police officers were dispatched in emergency mode to a disturbance near the 50th block of West 17th Street around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police said they located Ruiz, who was holding a machete in his right hand.

Police said they ordered Ruiz to put down the machete and took him into custody.

Detectives said they spoke with the victim who reported that he had been living with Ruiz Garcia for three months.

The victim stated that an argument began when he asked Ruiz Garcia to clean the bathroom, which police said made Ruiz Garcia angry and led him to grab a machete and wave it at the victim.

Ruiz Garcia then told the victim in Spanish to come out of the room and “let’s kill each other,” according to the report.

Police said the victim “feared for his life,” after believing that Ruiz Garcia intended to kill him if he left the room.

Authorities said a witness, who also lives in the apartment, confirmed the victim’s corroboration of the incident.

Police confirmed Ruiz was arrested and transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not yet been determined.
