Cops cuff 1 of 3 women suspected of swiping Rolex from man they met at Walgreens

Juliana Cortes, 23, turns self in on 2 felony charges

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Hallandale Beach police have arrested one-third of a trio of women accused of stealing a Rolex and jewelry from a man they first met in a Walgreens checkout line.

Cops took Juliana Tammy Cortes, 23, into custody Sunday, according to Broward jail records.

Police said Cortes, who lives in the Country Club area of northwest Miami-Dade, turned herself in. She appeared in court on Monday and is facing charges of first-degree grand theft and obtaining property over $50,000 by fraud.

The initial encounter happened at the Walgreens at 1300 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd.

The victim met the three women, who went by “Layla,” “Rose” and “Nicki,” in the checkout line, police said. Video shows him striking up a conversation with one of the women and he eventually gives them his phone number.

At 3 a.m., police said the trio called him up: They wanted to come over. They said the trio took more than $200,000 worth of valuables, including a Rolex and jewelry.

Police said they’re still looking for the other two suspects, Lexi Buffaloe and Antonietta Ceccarelli. Warrants are out for their arrests.

Authorities had a message for them Monday.

“If you can, you should turn yourself in,” Hallandale Beach police Capt. Megan Jones said. “Either way, we are going to make sure you’re apprehended and that justice is served.”

Cortes was being held in the Broward Main Jail on a $50,000 bond, records show.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
