Heatwave makes late afternoon thunderstorms likely in South Florida

Plan for risk of coastline storms starting at 2 p.m.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The record heat index was up to 110 degrees on Sunday in South Florida, and severe afternoon thunderstorms were likely.

The high humidity with temperatures in the middle 90s prompted a heat advisory.

The scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop along the coastline after 2 p.m. through sunset.

Some storms could be severe with large hail, damaging wind gusts, and excessive lightning. The chance of rain will be lower on Monday.
