FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A boy has died after being pulled from a pool in Fort Lauderdale Thursday night, authorities confirmed Friday morning.
The home where the drowning occurred is located near Northwest 15th Place and 19th Avenue.
According to first responders, upon arrival shortly after 7 p.m., crews found a boy at the bottom of a pool.
The child was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in cardiac arrest, where he later died, authorities said.
Sky 10 was above the home Friday morning, where the pool could be seen filled with leaves and other debris.
The boy’s relatives delcined to speak with Local 10 News Friday, but neighbors said they were in shock.
“It feels like it’s one of your own when you hear about a child drowned in the pool -- just breaks your heart,” one neighbor said.
The neighbor, who didn’t want to be shown on camera, said she saw the child’s mother outside immediately after the tragedy -- an image she won’t soon shake.
“She was totally out of it. And as a mother, I can understand. That was her baby. That was her baby,” the neighbor said.
Other neighbors said the tragedy is an important reminder about children and water safety.
“If you have kids, make sure you have a safety fence or like some type of alarm so you will know that your child is somewhere near the pool,” one woman said. “Please, if you can, take them to learn how to swim.”
Authorities have not released any information regarding the circumstances that led to the boy going into the water. His age has also not been released.
