Broward County Public Schools announces National Merit Scholarship winners

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Broward County Public Schools has announced the winners of this year’s prestigious National Merit Scholarships.

Seven graduating high school seniors were awarded $2,500 from National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

· Patrick Fung, McFatter Technical High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

· Ingrid J. Groose, Flanagan High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

· Arya Gujarathi, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

· Badrinath Konidala, Cypress Bay High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

· Marcela Lopez, Cypress Bay High School (Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarship)

· Marcos S. Ortega, West Broward High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

· Haoran Shi, West Broward High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)

The winners represent the finalists in each state who demonstrated the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in challenging college coursework. These scholarships can be used at any regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

Corporate-sponsored scholarships are offered to finalists who meet the specific criteria of the sponsoring organization.

From an initial pool of semifinalists, more than 15,000 students met the rigorous academic standards and other requirements to advance to the final state.
