NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man accused of shooting at a North Miami Beach officer outside of a Kabbalah Centre last week claimed he doesn’t remember shooting at anyone, according to an arrest report obtained Monday by Local 10 News.

According to North Miami Beach police, the shooting occurred Wednesday morning in the area of Northeast 27th Avenue and 163rd Street, in the parking lot of the Kabbalah Centre.

The officer wasn’t hurt when the suspect fired “at almost point blank range,” police said Thursday at a news conference.

“It could have gone the other way,” North Miami Beach police Maj. Juan Pinillos said.

The suspect, who has been identified as 36-year-old Evan Polinski, was taken into custody after fleeing and then crashing his car, according to police.

According to the arrest report, the officer had the windows of his police vehicle slightly down when he heard two loud gunshots coming from his right side.

He then spotted Polinski standing by a parking space near the northeast corner of the building, pointing a gun at him, authorities said.

Police said Polinski then began walking around the building to his car and the officer followed after him, ordering him to stop and drop his gun.

According to the report, Polinski told the officer, “f*** you,” ignoring his commands to drop his weapon.

Police said Polinski then fled the scene in his vehicle before crashing with another car in the area of Northwest Second Avenue and 167th Street, just before the Golden Glades Interchange.

According to the report, he was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was interviewed by detectives Thursday.

The report states that Polinski claimed to have gone to Duffy’s Wednesday to watch a basketball game before going to Flannigan’s, where he had a few drinks and ordered food to go.

Police said he claimed not to remember the shooting or car crash.

According to the report, once presented with surveillance video of the shooting he requested his attorney and the interview was stopped.

Records show Polinski is facing a charge of attempted homicide on a police officer.

Police said he also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance while armed, as suspected cocaine was found inside his wallet, along with charges of DUI and reckless driving.

Police said he was driving at nearly four times the legal limit when he ambushed the officer.

As of Monday morning, Polinski was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where his bond had yet to be set.
