DeSantis signs anti-human trafficking bill in Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Monday in Coral Gables.

The news conference was about human trafficking.

He was joined by Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, Attorney General Ashley Moody and Shevaun Harris, who heads the Florida Department of Children and Families.

DeSantis said he’ll be approving $4.9 million in the state’s budget to significantly expand access to emergency beds and provide additional staff for the prevention of human trafficking efforts.

He also announced a $900,000 grant for law enforcement training to combat human trafficking.

DeSantis was set to sign a bill updating how the state combats human trafficking, including extending the lifetime on the state’s human trafficking council.

It also requires various places where trafficking can occur, like rest areas and strip clubs, to put up human trafficking awareness posters.

It also raises the stripping age in Florida.
