Police: Miami-Dade Fire Rescue official hurt in accidental shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – First responders rushed into action after one of their own accidentally shot himself Friday.

According to police, officers responded to the 15200 block of Southwest 167th Street just before 4 p.m. after being alerted to someone who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers said they learned that the victim was a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue official who had accidentally discharged his weapon.

Fire rescue crews responded and rushed the man to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital’s trauma center in “good, stable condition,” police said.

The identity of the Miami-Dade Fire official has not been released.

Additionally, officers have yet to release any information regarding the circumstances that led up to the accidental shooting, or say whether the official was on- or off-duty when the shooting occurred.
