FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Authorities in Broward County arrested a 33-year-old man on attempted murder charges, according to jail records.
Hallandale police officers say Jaime Anjellino Allende was living in an independent living facility for mentally ill persons in the 500 block of Northwest Ninth Street in Fort Lauderdale.

According to investigators, on April 18, Allende said he began hearing voices that told him to “kill the Cuban.”
The victim was the only Cuban person living in the house at the time, authorities said.
According to Allende’s arrest report, he told officers that he armed himself with a knife, went into the victim’s unlocked bedroom and began stabbing him in the head and neck while he slept.
The incident was witnessed by another roommate, who officers say was asleep in the room and told investigators that he awoke to see Allende stabbing the victim.
Afterwards, police said Allende called 911 and said he wanted to turn himself in.
He was taken into custody and is facing a felony attempted murder charge.
Authorities said the victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. He is not expected to survive his injuries, according to authorities.
