HIALEAH, Fla. – A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he tried to use a stolen check at a bank in Hialeah, authorities said.
According to his arrest report, the incident occurred at the Ocean Bank, located at 790 W. 49th St.

Hialeah police said Luis Treto-Sifonte, of Medley, pulled up to the drive-thru teller and attempted to cash a check, but when trying to verify the check, the bank teller saw that it had been reported stolen by the account holder.
The bank teller then contacted law enforcement.
According to the report, Treto-Sifonte fled the area after spotting a marked Hialeah police car arriving at the bank.
Police said the officer activated his vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens, and Treto-Sifonte initially continued fleeing, but eventually stopped his car.
According to the report, Treto-Sifonte got out of the car and tried to discard a blue-colored checkbook, which was recovered by police.
Authorities said the checkbook had personal identifiable information not associated with Treto-Sifonte.
Police said he provided a statement to detectives, however his statement was redacted from the publicaly released report.
Treto-Sifonte was arrested on charges of organized scheme to defraud, unlawful possession of five or more identifications, grand theft and uttering forged bills.
As of Thursday afternoon, he remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
