BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Officials with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that deputies have identified and arrested an animal cruelty suspect accused of luring a cat to its death in the unincorporated Boulevard Gardens area in late April.
BSO spokesperson Carey Codd said deputies arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the crime on Wednesday.

Officials did not identify the teen, who they said was jailed on several felonies, “including animal cruelty involving torment, animal cruelty resulting in death and baiting of animals.”
Authorities said their investigation began after authorities said they discovered the dead cat on April 22 in the 300 block of Northwest 28th Terrace. The cat had bite marks on its body, according to BSO.
They said the previous night, the suspect was seen “tossing an item at a cat on top of a car, encouraging the cat to jump down.”
“The cat did jump down, and at that point, two dogs began chasing the cat,” Codd said in an earlier news release, seeking information about the case. “Hours later, the cat was discovered deceased, and BSO was contacted.”
Codd said the boy was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.
