MIAMI – The Starlight Children’s Foundation and MoneyGram Haas Formula 1 Team joined forces on Wednesday to bring joy to kids at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in celebration of the Miami Grand Prix.
The organizations distributed Starlight patient activity kits (PAKs) to children at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
These kits, which were packed with toys and engaging tools, aim to provide a positive diversion for children during their hospital stays.
The event also provided racing-themed activities for the children and gave them a chance to meet F1 driver Chloe Chambers.
“I just hope they have fun today and it makes their day a little bit better,” Chambers told Local 10 News. “I hope being exposed to racing and Motorsport gives them a little bit of encouragement.”
Hospitalization can be daunting for children, prompting the existence of Starlight.
Through initiatives like Toy Deliveries, Starlight VR, and Starlight Gaming, the foundation hopes “to bring happiness to hospitalized kids, enhancing well-being, compliance with treatment, and health outcomes,” a Starlight news release stated.
Starlight extends its programs, free of charge, to over 700 hospitals nationwide, leveraging play and creativity.
“Play is integral to childhood, fostering coping skills and resilience. Introducing play into healthcare environments normalizes the setting for children, fostering familiarity and reducing intimidation,” according to a news release.
By collaborating with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, Starlight aims to bring happiness to hospitalized children while aiding in their healing and resilience.
According to Starlight, “community involvement is key to transforming hospital experiences for seriously ill children.”
