MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Newly-obtained video shows a massive brawl broke out at Norland Senior High School in Miami Gardens, leading to a quintuple shooting at a home off campus.
The shooting happened Monday afternoon at a home on Northwest 197th Street, near 14th Court.
“It was two fights,” a student named Jahmari told Local 10 News. “There was one outside of the school, and then one that happened around the back over there.”
Police said the fight involved adults.
“An altercation that was going on that started at Norland Senior High School and it came over to this area,” Diana Delgado, a Miami Gardens Police Department spokesperson, said Monday. “Two parents got into an altercation and at some point someone (fired shots).”
Among the injured were two teens. All five victims were shot in the legs before being rushed to the hospital.
According to witnesses, the school fight appeared to involve two groups of girls, with several adults eventually getting involved and at times also getting physical.
“A girl was talking smack and it got worse from there,” Jahmari said.
After the fight had ended, one witness said the adults involved went to a nearby house on Northwest 197th Street to discuss the incident.
They said there, one of the adults pulled out a gun and fired one shot at the ground.
The bullet ricocheted, hitting the five victims. The school was placed on a temporary lockdown as police investigated.
The area was active for hours with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms using a K-9 to sweep the scene.
After eventually clearing, officers returned less than an hour later and appeared to interview more people.
What originally started the fight is still unclear.
Witnesses said at least one person was detained for questioning, but it’s not clear if that person was ever formally arrested.
