Feds take over case of Homestead woman’s killing in central Florida

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A central Florida sheriff and federal prosecutor held a news conference Monday afternoon to provide an update on a Homestead woman’s murder.

Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma and U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg “will discuss Federal charges in case of the carjacking that resulted in the murder of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas,” at around 2 p.m., according to a news release.

Lemma has previously announced arrests in connection with the carjacking and murder, which happened April 11.

One of the suspects, Jordanish Torres-Garcia, claimed he was paid to deliver the 31-year-old to someone else.

Others have been arrested after authorities opened up the case, including a deputy from neighboring Orange County who’s accused of illegally accessing and sharing information about the case with the victim’s husband, a childhood friend of the deputy’s wife.

Officials announced Monday that federal authorities are now leading the case. Handberg that more people could face federal charges.

“If we find evidence of a federal violation in the course of our investigation, we are going to pursue it,” Handberg said.
