Simpson, a former NFL running back, was tried and acquitted in 1996 for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994 in Los Angeles.

A civil court jury in California found Simpson liable for their deaths in 1997 and ruled that he had to pay the Brown and Goldman families a $33.5 million judgment.

Simpson was convicted of armed robbery after stealing two collectibles in 2007 at a hotel in Las Vegas, and he was sentenced to nine years in prison. He was released in 2017.

Simpson was living in Las Vegas when he was diagnosed. Prostate cancer in its early stages may be asymptomatic. At a more advanced stage, symptoms include bone pain and weight loss.

It’s not clear what causes the common cancer that killed an estimated 34,700 people last year in the U.S. Doctors do know that tumors form after cells’ DNA changes and these invade tissue.
