The fatal shooting was reported around 3:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the parking lot of The Spot Lounge Bar & Grill, located in the 4500 block of North University Drive.
Police said officers arrived at the scene and found a man lying on the ground, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as Christopher Matthew Fletcher, 34, had been shot executive-style with an assault rifle, authorities said.
He was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died. Fletcher was a father of two young children.
Police said another man arrived at Florida Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. His identity has not been released.
According to authorities, Fletcher had gone to the establishment with a friend and as the two were exiting, struck up a conversation with a woman.
Police said the two suspects, whom they did not know, weren’t happy about that, so they went back to their car and pulled out a gun and an assault rifle.
“Out of nowhere, they just opened fire on the two victims,” Lt. Antonio Gonzalez, a Lauderhill police spokesperson, said. “It’s extremely concerning for not only our city, any city, for a subject just to (go) back to their vehicle there in the parking lot, retrieve an assault rifle at that, and just open fire.”
The shooting was captured on surveillance video.
Both men face charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. They are pending extradition to Broward County.
Detectives ask that anyone with further information about the double shooting calls the Lauderhill Police Department at 954-497-4700 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
