PLANTATION, Fla. – Police are searching for the suspect who they said attacked and killed a man in front of the victim’s wife at a strip mall in Broward County.
Witnesses said the suspect used a screwdriver to stab the victim in the back before fleeing the scene.
It was on April 15 when 34-year-old Jesus David Gomez Garcia was stabbed to death at a coin laundry on State Road 7 and Southwest Sixth Street in Plantation.
Friends said they’ll miss how he brought people together.
“One day he told me, ‘Hey, one friend is coming,’ and (it) ended up being that the friend was my actual brother and we were not talking for a few months, and he made sure I made peace with my brother,” said his friend Julian, who did not want to give his last name. “They were sitting in the car and there were these two cars (that) started making weird movements in the parking lot. (They) was hitting the car of my friend continuously. When this happened, we went off to tell them, ‘Respect my car.’”
That’s when a fight broke out.
Loved ones say Gomez Garcia was stabbed in the back.
“One of the guys came in the back, stabbed him three times,” said Julian.
The owner of the laundromat told Local 10 News that the murder was caught on surveillance video, which he turned over to police, but the Plantation Police Department has not released a suspect description and has not made an arrest.
Lovingly known as Chucho, Gomez Garcia leaves behind two children, a wife and friends like Julian who loved him like a brother.
And they want justice.
“For the people that attacked your friend, what would you like to tell them?” asked Local 10′s Christian De La Rosa.
“I hope you pay,” Julian replied. “You guys are going to pay for this. I know God can see everything and he is after you. He’s after all of you.”
Anyone with information about the murder is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
