City of Miami police said officers responded to the apartment building after receiving a call about a possible fight between roommates.

Responding officers found the suspect, Brandon Carlos Grant, laying on the sidewalk outside the building with blood on his gray hoodie.

According to the report, the officers asked Grant what happened to him and he replied that he couldn’t breathe and asked for water.

Police said the officers then asked Grant if he lived at the building and he provided his unit number.

When officers entered the apartment unit, they found Grant’s roommate “unresponsive on his knees leaning on a couch,” the report stated.

Police said the victim appeared to have suffered “blunt force trauma on his face.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene by City of Miami Fire Rescue.

According to the report, Grant waived his Miranda rights and told detectives that he “became enraged when the victim would not give him a dollar.”

Grant admitted that a struggle ensued and that the victim asked him to stop at one point “because he was going to kill him,” according to the report.

Further statements made to detectives were redacted from the publicly released report.

Grant was arrested on a second-degree murder charge.

As of Monday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
