2 dead, 1 injured during gas station shooting in Miami

MIAMI – Two men died and another was injured during a shooting early Saturday morning in Miami, police said.

According to Officer Michael Vega, a spokesman for the Miami Police Department, the gunman killed Shahbaz Hussain and Shamun Shaukat while they worked at the Chevron in the Liberty City neighborhood.

Lorenzo Profit, who works at the gas station, said they were about to close up when the gunman shot them.

“He shot my boss six times and shot the other one three times and shot the other one, who is in the hospital right now, he shot him in the groin,” Profit said at the gas station on the corner of Northwest 54 Street and 17 Avenue.

According to Vega, Elijah Shorter, a customer, was also injured at the gas station and his condition was critical at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

The gunman, who had long hair and a mustache, ran away without stealing anything from the gas station. He was wearing a black top with the word “Power” in white font letters, according to police.

A suspect was arrested at a neighboring apartment building but the homicide detectives’ investigation into the fatal shooting continued on Saturday evening, police said.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
