MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning in West Perrine.
According to police, the shooting occurred in the 10100 block of East Hibiscus Street.
Police said officers responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and found a man inside of a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Neighbors in the area told Local 10′s Saira Anwer that the heard the shots ring out sometime before 4 a.m.
“They gotta do something about it. Gotta build up a better community,” Seymour Vincent said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition, however, the victim later died from his injuries. He was identified as Kelvin Stanley Daye.
Neighbors said Daye was a father and in his 20s.
They told Anwer gun violence is frequent in their neighborhood and something needs to be done to keep families safe.
“All we’re asking these young people is to lay down these guns (and) stop killing each other,” Mark Harris said.
No other details about the shooting were immediately released.
