MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police released audio of a 911 call Thursday after they say a hit-and-run driver struck a 26-year-old woman while she was jogging last Saturday morning in Miramar.
Onyxia Delinois was heard in the background crying in pain, as members of her running group were on the phone with 911 after the incident occurred.
“She’s bleeding from her head and has a lot of bruises,” the caller said.
Memorial Regional Hospital Dr. Andrew Rosenthal said Delinois remains in a coma Thursday after she suffered a critical head injury, underwent emergency brain surgery, and was in the intensive care unit.
“Her prognosis, really at this point, is undetermined,” Rosenthal said.
Delinois’s husband, Roosevelt Delinois, asked the public for help with finding the driver who didn’t stop to help her and didn’t call police after running her over along Miramar Parkway.
“My wife is amazing. She does so much for me and my family. She is selfless,” he said through tears. “I just want someone to come forward.”
Delinois served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and owns an insurance agency in Sunrise.
She was out running ahead of a group of joggers who found her injured after the driver veered off the road, struck her, and fled around 7 a.m.
“I just want someone just to say something... someone to come forward and say who did this to her,” said Roosevelt Delinois.
Police are actively searching for the driver responsible.
“We are looking for a vehicle that may have right damage to the vehicle on the front or the side,” said Jose Rosales, with the Miramar Police Department.
Her family asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information on the case to call 954-602-4000.
A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with hospital expenses, and that page can be found by clicking here.
