MIRAMAR, Fla. – A 26-year-old woman was in a coma on Wednesday after a hit-and-run driver struck her while she was running on Saturday morning in Miramar, according to police.
Memorial Regional Hospital Dr. Andrew Rosenthal said Onyxia Delinois suffered a critical head injury, underwent emergency brain surgery, and was in the intensive care unit.
“Her prognosis, really at this point, is undetermined,” Rosenthal said.
Delinois’s husband, Roosevelt Delinois, asked the public for help with finding the driver who didn’t stop to help her and didn’t call police after running her over along Miramar Parkway.
“My wife is amazing. She does so much for me and my family. She is selfless,” he said through tears.
Onyxia Delinois served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and owns an insurance agency in Sunrise.
She was out running ahead of a group of joggers who found her injured after the driver veered off the road, struck her, and fled.
“I just want someone just to say something ... someone to come forward and say who did this to her,” her husband said.
Police are actively searching for the driver responsible.
“We are looking for a vehicle that may have right damage to the vehicle on the front or the side,” said Jose Rosales, with the Miramar Police Department.
