SURFSIDE, Fla. – Members of the Surfside Police Department showed a united front during a town commission meeting on Thursday.
The officers went before their new mayor and commission to call them out on comments made against the department.
The tense exchanges stemmed from the controversial arrest of a political activist for battery on the former vice mayor for the previous administration.
That arrest was protested by many, who called it political retaliation.
The charges were eventually dropped and the police chief at the time has since resigned.
Members of the police force said they blamed the comments from the mayor and commission for what they described as harassment from residents.
The mayor and members of the commission essentially responded by saying they should be able to take the criticism.
