In a surprise move, the City Council took the first step towards firing City Manager Rasha Cameau.

Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe put forth a motion to terminate Cameau, pursuant to the terms of the City Manager’s employment agreement.
Vice Mayor Mary Estime Irvin and Councilman Pierre Frantz Charles then joined Timothe to vote for the motion to remove Cameau.
Mayor Alix Desulme and Councilman Scott Galvin voted against the move.
The motion paves the way for an official vote on Cameau’s future at the next meeting next month.
Before then, Timothe, Estime Irvin and Charles are expected to provide the City Attorney with a list of reasons for wanting to fire the Manager.
The resolution will be made public during a meeting on May 14, and then the Commission will vote on whether to fire Cameau.
“This is a sad day for the City of North Miami,” said Desulme.
“Rasha Cameau is a fantastic manager, who has worked very hard and has the respect of the city employees,” said Galvin. “I hope the council reconsiders its decision before the next meeting.”
