FDA announces aloe hand sanitizer gel recall over methanol risk

The FDA announced Aruba Aloe recalled hand sanitizers. (FDA)

MIAMI – The Food and Drug Administration recently announced a recall of 40 lots of Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel warning of a risk of methanol exposure.

According to the FDA’s risk statement, the products had alcohol denatured with methanol, which has a risk of blindness, nervous system damage, or death.

According to the FDA, Aruba Aloe did not receive any reports of adverse events before the recall of the product packaged in 2.2 fl oz, 8.5 fl oz, and 12 fl. oz plastic bottles.
