CityPlace Doral police-involved shooting: Here is what Miami-Dade police reported

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta releases information on police-involved shooting

DORAL, Fla. ā€“ A man took out a gun and fatally shot a security guard early Saturday morning at a business at CityPlace in Doral, according to Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Two Doral police officers who were working at the business discharged their firearms and one fatally shot the gunman, according to Zabaleta, who talked to reporters during a news conference.

ā€œOfficers that were working at the commercial establishment at the time immediately responded, and there was an exchange of gunfire,ā€ Zabaleta said.

A woman, five men, and a police officer were injured during the shootout, according to Zabaleta, who added that the officer suffered a gunshot wound ā€œto the lower extremity.ā€

Zabaleta said two of the civilians injured were in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospitalā€™s Ryder Trauma Center and HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, and the other four were in stable condition.

Zabaleta said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating the Doral police-involved shooting and it was too early in the investigation to know how the six civilians were injured.

ā€œUnfortunately, the security guard lost his life while he was performing his duties, and of course, our heart goes out to that family,ā€ Zabaleta said.
