OPA-LOCKA Fla. – Police arrested a 20-year-old man last week who they said battered and choked his pregnant wife last week in Opa-locka.
In response to a reported battery with injuries call, Opa-locka police said they were dispatched to a home near the 1300 block of Peri Street around 10 30 p.m. March 29.

Upon arrival, police said they found the victim who was observed crouched in an alleyway, appearing to hide from someone.
Upon inquiry, the victim told responding officers that her husband, Kelvin Davila, of Opa-locka, “had fled the area in a white Kia,” the report stated.
Police said the victim recounted a harrowing incident where Davila allegedly choked, slapped, bit and punched her during an argument after he claimed that she was “too moody” while they were previously at a Walgreens in Miami Gardens.
Police said as Davila drove home with the victim in the car, she attempted to exit the vehicle a second time, at which time he forcefully pulled her back in by the hair, grabbed her left arm and twisted it until she felt pain, despite her pleas for him to stop, fearing he might break it.
Upon arrival at their home, police said Davila threatened to take the victim inside against her will. As the victim refused to exit the vehicle, Davila forcibly removed her, and she continued to resist, grabbing onto a fence as a passerby intervened, according to an arrest report.
After warning the victim that her actions would prompt a call to the police, Davila then returned to his vehicle, allowing her to escape and hide.
Police said as he searched for the victim, she sought refuge at the rear of the property until discovered by authorities. The victim exhibited swelling on her lips, cheeks, and forehead, along with bruises on her left arm, particularly on her bicep, which appeared severely bruised.
An arrest report states the victim was treated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and transported to Jackson North Medical Center for further evaluation.
The couple, who was married for one month and expecting their first child, had been living together for six months, according to the report.
The victim, who is six weeks pregnant, was aware of her condition, police said.
Following the incident, police issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) alert for Davila and his vehicle.
Subsequently, Davila voluntarily arrived at the Opa Locka police station and was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Jail records show he is facing one count of aggravated battery on a pregnant victim.
Davila did not appear on the Miami-Dade Corrections’ inmate search as of Monday evening.
