Fort Lauderdale police release body cam video of officer shot, suspect killed

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police released body camera video of a shootout at a Fort Lauderdale hotel that ended with a suspect dead and an officer wounded last Thursday.

It happened in a room at the Holiday Inn Express at 1500 SE 17th St., in the city’s Harbordale area, according to police.

The video shows officers walk into harm’s way, approaching a room occupied by 46-year-old Karl Chludinsky, of Margate.

Chludinsky opens the door with a phone in his left hand and a gun in his right. He then points it at officers, who opened fire and eventually killed him, but not before Officer Jack DiCristofalo was hit by a bullet during the gun battle.

His injury was not life-threatening. Police released a photo showing the bullet lodged in DiCristofalo’s bulletproof vest.

Police said a motive for the shooting remains unclear.
