According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just south of Coconut Creek Parkway at mile marker 67 in Coconut Creek.

Troopers said the Acura was parked on the outside shoulder of the Turnpike as the Jeep was heading north on the highway, improperly driving on the shoulder.

According to troopers, the driver of the Jeep did not slow down or maneuver the vehicle to avoid colliding into the Acura, but instead, slammed into the rear of the vehicle.

The Acura rotated, coming to a rest facing south on the outside shoulder of the highway, authorities said.

The driver of the Acura, identified as a 30-year-old woman from Panama City Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coconut Creek Fire Rescue personnel. Her identity has not yet been released as troopers work to notify her next-of-kin.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as a 31-year-old man from Coconut Creek, suffered non-incapacitating injuries. His identity has also not yet been released and it’s unclear whether he will face charges.

All northbound traffic was being diverted at Atlantic Boulevard for hours after the crash, but all lanes reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
