2 dead, 1 in critical condition after murder, attempted suicide at Plantation home

PLANTATION, Fla. – There was a large police presence at a home in a Plantation neighborhood Tuesday afternoon as detectives investigated the deaths of two people in what they described as a murder and attempted suicide.

It happened at a home along Northwest 97th Avenue in the Jacaranda Lakes area of the city.

Neighbors and police were emotional as officers combed the scene.

One neighbor said a family of four lives at the home: A mother, father, a 3-month-old and a 2-year-old boy. He said he saw medics taking the father to the hospital; he said he did not see the mother or the 2-year-old.

“I saw the 3-month-old baby with the grandparents -- that’s all I’ve seen,” the neighbor said.

Police said the man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, saying he possibly overdosed on some type of drug.

Authorities hadn’t yet provided additional details about what happened, as of Tuesday evening, other than initially saying that it was a stabbing incident.

Plantation police later posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that “(t)he public’s safety is not at risk at this time.”
