Police: Man, 43, confesses to sexually abusing 15-year-old girl in Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 43-year-old convicted felon confessed to sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl for months in Miami-Dade County, according to police records.

The teenage girl reported Shuntavious Baptiste’s abuse happened from January to Saturday in his bedroom, according to a Miami-Dade police arrest report.

When police officers searched Baptiste’s bedroom, they found a Smith & Wesson Model 5903 pistol and a magazine with 14 rounds on the bed, records show.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Baptiste was convicted of grand theft, armed robbery, and fraudulent use of personal identification in Miami-Dade.

Baptiste, also known as Robert Player and Sean Robinson, was sentenced to five years in prison and FDOC released him on March 22, 2014, according to state records.

On Saturday, Baptiste confessed that the teenage girl was telling the truth during an interrogation at the Miami-Dade Police Department’s special victims bureau in Doral, records show.

A detective arrested Baptiste at about 2:30 p.m., and correctional officers booked him shortly before 5:15 p.m., according to county records. He appeared in court on Monday.

Baptiste is facing charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a child, lewd and lascivious molestation on a child, lewd and lascivious conduct on a child, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A judge set his bond at $32,500. Miami-Dade correctional officers were holding Baptiste on Monday afternoon at the Metrowest Detention Center near Doral.
