Man murdered over $3 debt in Pompano Beach, deputies say

Terry Flowers (BSO)

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Pompano Beach man who goes by the street name of “Weezy” murdered another man because the victim owed him $3, according to Broward court records released Monday.

Deputies arrested “Weezy,” whose real name is Terry Flowers, on Tuesday in connection with the March 6 shooting outside of the J-Mar Food Store, located at 250 N. Powerline Road.

Flowers, 39, shot the victim, whose identity was redacted from an arrest warrant, five times just before 9:30 that night, deputies said.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue medics rushed the victim to Broward Health North where he was later pronounced dead.

Family members and a witness said they believed the shooting occurred because of the dispute over the $3 debt.

A woman was with the victim around the time of the shooting said “Weezy” had confronted the victim with a gun over the debt two days before the killing.

Detectives found surveillance video showing the murder, the warrant states. Authorities said it appeared Flowers accidentally fired a shot as he got out of a vehicle 15 minutes before the shooting.

Deputies said the video showed what appeared to be an accomplice collecting shell cases off the ground after the shooting, but not all of them, as they said detectives found a casing at the scene. It isn’t clear if that man has been identified or arrested.

Broward Sheriff’s Office VIPER — short for Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response — deputies took Flowers into custody Tuesday at an apartment complex in Dania Beach.

Flowers was being held without bond in the BSO Main Jail on a first-degree murder charge as of Monday.
