MIAMI – A police officer stopped a white Mercedes-Benz with dark-tinted windows on Saturday afternoon in Miami’s Brickell area. It had a stench of marijuana, police said.

Kashema Dawkins was a passenger, police said. Records show she has a pending grand theft case involving fake identifications and forged instruments in Broward County.

Dawkins, 30, had an active warrant for her arrest, according to a police report. She was holding a purse, and a police officer ordered her to leave it in the car, police said.

A police officer searched the purse and found five credit cards and an ID that did not belong to her or any of the people who were with her in the Mercedes-Benz, according to police.

Court records show that when she was arrested in 2022 in Broward, she was wanted in Kentucky on three counts of theft by deception, and four counts of theft of identity.

In the Nov. 26, 2023, pending case in Broward, Dawkins is facing two counts of criminal use of personal ID information, and charges of third-degree grand theft, unauthorized possession of an ID card or driver’s license, and possession of a fictitious personal ID.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
