Mother of child sex abuse suspect faces harassment charge in Miami-Dade

MIAMI – A 79-year-old woman was using a wheelchair when she appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Saturday.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Laura Anne Stuzin said Olivia Maria Borbolla was facing a second-degree felony charge of harassment.

Attorney Juan Maurin told Stuzin that he was representing Borbolla, who had surrendered to police on Friday.

Borbolla has “never been arrested in her life ... she has a host of physical problems, including a pacemaker and some other things,” Maurin said.

Records show Borbolla, who is 5-foot, 2-inches tall, was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday afternoon. She lives in Miami-Dade’s Country Walk area.

Stuzin ordered Borbolla to stay away from the victim. According to police, the victim is a critical witness in an open criminal case.

“The defendant’s son was arrested,” Stuzin said adding that she couldn’t continue reading the arrest form aloud in open court.

Miami-Dade court records show Borbolla’s son, Raul Borbolla Jr., was arrested in January, and he was facing 23 child sex abuse charges.

Stuzin set Olivia Borbolla’s bond at $7,500 Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Lody Jean was set to preside over her case.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Laura Maria Gonzalez-Marques is presiding over Raul Borbolla’s case.

Records show a judge denied Raul Borbolla’s bond, and he was at the Metrowest Detention Center on Saturday.
