FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A special free program focusing on drowning prevention will be held March 25-29 at YMCAs throughout Broward County to focus on drowning prevention.
Data shows that formal swimming lessons reduce the likelihood of drowning by 88 percent, which is why the YMCA of South Florida is offering five days of free lessons teaching water safety skills to children, teens and adults.
“From having a fear of water to understanding how important it is to be safe around water, obviously Florida is surrounded by all kinds of water and unfortunately we lead the nation in drownings here so it’s really important to us that we continue to educate on that,” said Tara Montenaro, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of South Florida.
