Authorities stated that the woman was compelled to drive over a sidewalk onto Government Road to escape.
Police confirmed that Barnes pursued her and rear-ended her car, resulting in moderate damage.
During the attempted escape, the victim lost control near a curve south of Little Hamaca Park, crashing into a concrete barrier on the side of the road, disabling her vehicle, police said.
Subsequently, Barnes reportedly fled the scene after telling the male passenger that he was going to “get it boy,” his arrest report stated.
Upon returning home, a sergeant with the KWPD spotted Barnes’ vehicle traveling eastbound on North Roosevelt Boulevard and conducted a stop, detaining Barnes until additional officers arrived.
Both victims told police they were going to press charges against Barnes following the incident.
Barnes’ arrest report also stated that a witness in the area heard the male passenger yell for help and saw the Range Rover chasing the victim’s car.
Detectives confirmed that they found a golf club with a missing head and a sheathed knife after searching Barnes’ vehicle.
Police confirmed no injuries were reported.
Both victims stated their intention to press charges against Barnes. The arrest report noted a witness in the area heard the male passenger yell for help and saw the Range Rover chasing the victim’s car.
Police discovered the head of a golf club inside the victim’s Kia, which was later submitted to KWPD’s Property and Evidence Department. Detectives found a golf club with a missing club head and a sheathed knife in Barnes’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported, but police confirmed probable cause that Barnes “maliciously” damaged the victim’s car window with a golf club and rammed into her car with his SUV.
Additionally, police said Barnes engaged in a criminal offense by illegally possessing the knife as a convicted felon.
Jail records show Barnes faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, criminal mischief, felon in possession of a concealed weapon, leaving the scene of a crash and possessing a weapon during the commission of a felony.
His bond amount and arraignment date have not been announced at this time.
