MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The FBI has joined the family of Demetrius Harris, who is pleading for someone to come forward with information about the whereabouts of Joshua Ismael Campos, who is suspected of killing Harris during a heated dispute between neighbors.
The FBI and Miami-Dade police held a news conference Wednesday to ask for the public’s help in finding Campos, who is 22 years old.
Authorities said they received information that Campos has left Florida.
“He should be considered armed, dangerous and an escape risk,” a detective said.
The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. on July 25, 2021, in the 13800 block of Southwest 270th Street in the county’s Naranja area.
According to Miami-Dade police, officers responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.
When they arrived, they found Harris, then 26, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported Harris to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police said detectives determined that the victim had been arguing with a woman, identified as Maxine McCord, and her family members, in the courtyard of the apartment complex.
Police said McCord’s boyfriend, Campos, then 19, came out of his apartment and shot Harris.
He then fled the scene with McCord, leaving their 1-year-old child with relatives, authorities said.
Campos is wanted by police on a second-degree murder charge. Police said McCord has also not been found since leaving that day, and detectives believe she is traveling with Campos. They want to speak with her to question her about the shooting.
Detectives confirmed that Campos has ties to Miami, Fort Pierce Tampa, Georgia, Alabama and Texas.
Harris left behind two daughters — 8-year-old London and 4-year-old Madison as his family continues to plead for justice.
“It’s been a long time. It’s been three years,” said Harris’ father. “I need justice for my son. His kids miss him so much.”

Tipsters can also receive a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Campos’ arrest.
